Bringing International Hip-Hop to Club Buddha
The hip-hop community is buzzing about Sunday's Infinity Funk: Journey Over East Edition at Club Buddha, and for good reason. This isn't just another international showcase—it's a reunion that offers a rare chance to rock it out while catching up with everybody.
Buddha has been the vibrating center of Nagoya's club scene since 1986. For hip-hop heads, the venue's intimate setup and quality sound system create the perfect environment for the genre, allowing audiences to connect directly with performers.
Headlining the event are some of the best of America's regional scene, making their mark abroad. Tamaskin from North Charleston has carved out his niche with what he calls 'Pluggnb' – a self-created genre blending alternative and progressive elements. His fans have dubbed his output "Aventador music," reflecting the luxury-level production quality.

Semkari, also South Carolina-based, brings a decade of experience blending hip-hop with soul, rock, and electronic elements. His reputation for energetic, improvisational performances makes him a natural fit for Club Buddha's up-close atmosphere.

The real highlight for local audiences is Paulie Rhyme's return to the stage in Nagoya. The artist, who originated from Cleveland, has dedicated years to forming genuine connections within the Japanese hip-hop community. He has collaborated with respected names such as Nomak, Sly, Kazahaya, and Tofubeats. His presence on this lineup embodies the authentic cultural exchange that distinguishes Nagoya's hip-hop scene from mere tourism.

The supporting lineup reads like a roll call of current local talent: Blackjack, Coda, CQCQ, FreakyJap, S.K.R., and Yuki-boy handling live duties, with DJs Akio and Kello maintaining the flow. It's the kind of mixed bill that reflects how international and local scenes have genuinely integrated rather than simply coexisted.

Club Buddha's reputation for hosting diverse music genres and its history as a breeding ground for DJs and musicians make it the logical choice for an event emphasizing both celebration and cultural connection. The venue's flexible timing – catch the show before last trains or stay for the after-party – acknowledges both the dedicated community and curious newcomers this event will attract.
With additional dates planned for Osaka and Kyoto, this is NAG's chance to soak up the vibes.
